Any statistic or data reporting on the stillbirth rate could be found in other places like the CDC or other organizations that track mortality rates.
The rate of stillborns that our volunteers photograph would not directly correlate with the statistics for the rate of stillbirth in the US or globally. An increase in stillborns photographed would correlate with the number of families and hospital staff who call us for these services. Not every hospital or family calls us. When they do, we don’t always have a volunteer available, and many people still don’t know about our services, and other organizations provide similar services that some hospitals call instead of NILMDTS volunteers.
The more we expand our outreach and education, the more calls we receive. We hope to offer the gift of a professional portrait session to all families who are experiencing the loss of a baby.
